Some days
So you start out with a straightforward jog over the border which goes a bit wonky due to paperwork and possibly (although not proven in law) with the truck a little bit over weight only to chill out with the Polish Customs mob for a few hours while they wait for the right email- eventually it came and they all cheered, bless them, you cant be annoyed with nice people.
The Ukraine side of the border was a breeze and the guys and girls were lovely to deal with.
By the time I got through time was kind of short so the journey had to be compressed and repackaged as a race stage, the obligatory check point stops acting as pit stops and slowing the average pace down.. I managed to keep the old girl lit but the roads were lumpy enough to knock the gear lever out of gear and auto eject all the storage lockers in the cab.
I finally made it to my delivery point and was met by a team of volunteers who set about unloading the truck by hand moving 5.5 tonnes of kit in 20 minutes. This is aid at the sharp end, it’s difficult but hugely rewarding, I feel humbled by the energy and will these people have and the welcome they give.
It started out as a tricky day, it ended as a massively worth it one.
